John 4:49,50
Today's verse is from John 4, 49, and 50.
The official said to him, sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said to him go, your son will live. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.
Sir, come down before my child dies.
We find that the man has come to a place that he knows Jesus is the only answer. No doubt the doctors have long since been called in, but of no avail, so the only hope was Christ, as Christ is the only hope for all the humanity.
But again, his faith was tested.
Jesus does not agree to go with him, he just said. Go, your son will live. The man would have been taken by surprise. In effect, Jesus is telling him that he does not have to be there personally for the miracle to be brought out. But that is, word will suffice.
He was a man who is accustomed to being obeyed. People obeyed him, but now he realizes that Jesus is not going to accompany him to Capernaum. But he had the promise from Jesus Christ that his son will live, and that is the reason for which he has come. Would he continue to press for the personal presence of Jesus by the side of his dying son or would he accept Jesus word at the face value. He did believe. The man believed the word of Jesus. And then he went his way. When Jesus gave him his promise, I have every confidence that the presence of the Lord was exceptional and would be sensed by all. Consequently, it was not a mere promise, but rather the Eternal logos John 1, 1 says in the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. That was the Eternal logos. That was the word that was the promise he received. Today, are you in that situation Where your only hope is Jesus?
Prayer
Lord Jesus I thank you for your promises in my life. Your promises are yes and amen. I commit myself to your hands. I pray in Jesus name.
