John 6:19

Finding Peace in the Midst of the Storm

"When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were frightened." — John 6:19

Life often feels like a journey across a vast, unpredictable sea. One moment the waters are calm, and the next, we find ourselves three or four miles out, exhausted by the oars and surrounded by darkness.

In John 6, we find the disciples in this exact position. But as we look closer at their struggle, we find a profound lesson in Divine Providence: the truth that nothing happens to us apart from God’s sovereign, loving will.

1. He Doesn't Need a Boat to Reach You

The disciples were in the middle of the sea, and Jesus was on a mountain praying. From a human perspective, they were stranded. In fact, verse 22 tells us there were no other boats available. To the disciples, there was no logical "means" for Jesus to reach them.

Often, we limit God by our own imagination. We think, "If this door doesn't open, or if that person doesn't help me, there is no way out." The disciples were terrified because they didn't realize that Jesus doesn't need a boat to get to you. He will walk on the very waves that threaten to sink you just to reach your side.

2. The Savior Who Never Sleeps

The disciples had been in a storm before, but that time, Jesus was in the boat sleeping. They could at least see Him. This time, He was physically absent.

However, we must remember: Jesus isn't sleeping in heaven.

 * He is interceding for us.

 * He is watching our progress.

 * He knows our situation even while He is praying.

Whether your storm is a result of disobedience (like Jonah) or a result of total obedience (like the disciples), the promise remains the same: He is aware, He is praying, and He is coming.

3. Trusting the Perfect Timing

The storms of life cannot prevent Him from coming to us. We may not be able to "figure out" why we are in the deep waters, but our job isn't to calculate the solution—it’s to trust the Savior.

Jesus tells us in Mathew 28:20  "I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

A Prayer for Strength

If you are going through deep waters today, let us look to Him together:

Holy Father, we thank You for Your Word. We commit our problems into Your hands, knowing that You are sovereign. Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for us and for knowing our exact situation. We submit our lives to You and ask that You intervene in our struggles today. Help us to trust You even when we cannot see the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
