John 6:3,4

Praise the Lord today's verse is from John 6 chapter verse three and four

Jesus went up to the mountain and there he sat down with his disciples. Now the passover, the feast of the Jews was at hand.

Jesus went up to the mountain, seems to express a desire for solitude. However, the crowd found them and gathered there.

Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews was at hand. This is the second passover mentioned in the book of John. The first was in John 2:13, when Jesus was in the temple, where he drove out the people selling oxen, sheep, and pigeons in the temple

In John 6:4, this would have been the second passover mentioned in John’s gospel and therefore the completion of the second year of Jesus ministry.

The third passover was written in John 1:21. This Passover was the crucification of Jesus in Jerusalem, when Jesus became the Passover lamb.

The Jewish Passover is the celebration of the exodus from Egypt. The The celebration was the slaughter of a lamb in each household, which they ate it. In John's gospel, Jesus is the lamp of God.. Passover is also associated with God's sustenance of Israel in the wilderness. We see in the chapter, Jesus will sustain the multitude in the small wilderness with the bread from heaven, both literally and spiritually.

John is the only one one of the four gospel writers who told us that this event took place in the time of the Passover.

Passover is the celebration of the Israel people being delivered from the slavery of Egypt. The Jews remembered the night of Deliverance when they slaughtered the Passover lamp and applied the blood on the lintel and the doorpost and then the death angel passed over them, but the first born in every Egyptian house was killed.

Today we can celebrate because Jesus has delivered us from the slavery of sin. Have you been delivered from sin?

Prayer

Let us pray. Heavenly Father, I thank you that you have delivered us from sin because Jesus became the Passover lamb. We commit ourselves into your hands of God. We thank you, we praise you. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen. God bless you.
