John 6:2
Praise the lord today's verses from John 6 verse 2
“And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick.”
John 6:2 ESV
It becomes clear that enumerous crowds and searching enthusiasm are not always evidence of spiritual validity. One of the main reasons people were following Jesus is that he was performing many miracles. It is impossible for us to comprehend or realise the magnitude of this miracles, and what must have happened at these meetings, to think of blind eyes instantly being opened, with lepers instantly cleansed, and all manners of diseases instantly healed must have brought a joy unparallelled in the history of humanity.
So we might describe many of this large crowd may be disciples. However, as the story unfolds, we see soon that the crowd who followed him did not obey his command to count the cost and follow him. In the later part of this chapter in verse 66 we read “After this, many of the disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. Jesus made it clear in Mark 8:3435. If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me, for whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel will save it.
Some few people perhaps were in doubt, and surprise, wondering whether he who wrought such miracles could probably be the Messiah.
The great majority probably followed from a vague, idle curiosity and love of excitement, which are the principles that gather nearly every crowd in this world.
A faith founded on miracles is never as pleasing to God as that which is founded on is Word alone. God's Word should require no miracle to verify it. His word is true.
Are you reading is Word? Are you believing His Word? John called Jesus miracles as sign because they were meant to function as fingers pointing people to the divine power behind the miracles, ultimately to the power of God and to the Messiah Jesus Christ
If you are hearing this message, and you still not receive Jesus as your personal Saviour, has your life been changed?
